Posted by:

The hardest part about using the bathtub process is the inactive time, but it’s worth it.  The soaking of the racks helps soften up the gunk, making it easier to wipe and scrub off.  Cleaning your oven racks isn’t that bad of a task to do every few months.  Here are a couple of methods using some household items that might make it easier for you.

Method 1- Vinegar and Dish Washing Detergent

  • Set the oven racks in the bathtub
  • Add enough hot water to cover the racks
  • Add 1/2 cup of vinegar and 3/4 cup of dish washing detergent
  • Soak the racks in the tub for four hours, rinse off
  • Use a brush to scrub off anything that didn’t come off in the rinse

Method 2- Dish Washing Detergent and Dryer Sheets

  • Set the oven racks in the bathtub
  • Add enough hot water to cover the racks
  • Add 1/2 cup of Dawn Dish Soap and 6 dryer sheets
  • Leave the racks to soak overnight, rinse off
  • Use a brush to scrub off anything that didn’t come off in the rinse
