The bug season is in full force and with how annoying the bugs can be during this time, don’t forget the danger that comes along with them. These creepy facts about bugs may have your skin crawling, but if you follow these tips for prevention, you will be sure to have a no bug zone!

Flies: The average fly can lay up to 3,000 eggs in their one-month lifespan.  If one gets caught in your house, you should expect them to discharge feces about every five minutes.  This will contaminate surfaces and food!

Prevention: Make sure all entry points of doors and windows are sealed tight with no tears.  Also check for gaps where pipes enter or exit your home.

Cockroaches: They can run up to 50 times their body length in one second, that’s like a human running 200 mph!  Also, allergies to cockroaches are very common in children.  One in five children are found to be severely allergic to their saliva, droppings, and decomposing bodies.

Prevention: Make sure your kitchen is cleaned on a regular basis, especially where trash builds up.

Ants: Scientists estimate there are 1.5 millions ants for every human.  Ants are not only annoying but they contaminate food, damage property, and will even bite when provoked.

Prevention: Keep your house as crumb free as possible.  Ants like sticky or greasy messes.

Mosquitoes: There are more deaths related to a mosquito bite than with any other animal or insect on the planet.  They can find human carbon dioxide from up to 75 feet away, making it impossible for us to avoid them.

Prevention: Use repellents that contain at least 20% DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Eucalyptus oil.
